I am taking a hard look at whether or not using coupons might be good for us. Since I think that I only buy name brand mayonnaise (I won't touch the store brand), I don't think couponing is going to be worth the time. BUT this week I am going to take an inventory of my cupboards, refrigerator, freezer, laundry room, bathroom, cleaning closet, etc. to see exactly how many name brand items we have. The next step will be to determine if we think that we MUST have the name brand and then if coupons are available for those brands.
If you have been considering couponing, why don't you take this challenge with me? Let me know what coupons you find and at what sites. We don't have a CVS or Walgreens close by (my husband has both in the town where he works but getting him to shop AND use coupons would probably be a stretch). I would have to use mostly coupons just for the grocery store and dollar store, but other ideas are welcome here.

I used to do the Grocery Game and saved quite a bit of money, I thought. But it took so much time and I had to shop several stores. I just can't carve out time for that right now. Or maybe I need to try harder to find the time? Anyway, I mostly save by trying to cook frugal meals or by just not eating out.
ReplyDeleteI have never used coupons because we tend to buy mostly whole foods, and very little processed foods. I tend to make my own cleaners, and buy not toxic personal products, so I find it hard to find coupons that work for us. But someone pointed out to not too long ago, that there are still always areas that coupons can be used, such as laundry products, personal care products, pet food. I have used several coupons for shampoo and dog food recently.
ReplyDeleteLook for areas where coupon use will benefit you and tailor it around your buying.
Every little bit helps!
I found you on the UBP site - great blog! I do use coupons and find that there are often times coupons for things that they don't have store brand of - i.e. meats, etc. Also, with coupons and sales there are many many times when the branded item is way cheaper than the store brand, or even FREE!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Nicole. I also use coupons. I am usually not brand specific. But there are times for sure you can get name brand items for free or nearly free with a coupon! I will be checking in to see what works for you!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck.
